Douglas Pharmaceuticals are deeply committed to supporting the communities within which they operate. It’s therefore important to them to grow and develop leaders whom share an awareness and appreciation of community as well.
Three Hands worked with the Douglas People and Culture team to co-create a leadership development programme for senior leaders. Their desire was to focus leaders’ attention and build competency in service of the Douglas Leadership Promise – a statement the organisation uses to describe the experience of working at Douglas.
Three Hands introduced local charity NeuroConnection Foundation with the Douglas team and the project that evolved generated the space for Douglas leaders to apply and intentionally practice the leadership skills and behaviours described in the Douglas Leadership Promise.
Underpinning the design and experience was our objective of aligning Douglas’ strong value around caring for community with the way their leaders learn and develop. It was important that Douglas leaders get that their role as a leader involves not only connecting with their team inside the business but also with their customer and community around the business.
Douglas Leaders spent time at the NeuroConnection Foundation centre. They were able to understand their cause, see their work in action and meet clients whom benefit from the service they provide.
The foundation presented the leaders with a project to help them grow their reach within West Auckland – ideally increasing their impact with those in need and resulting in more numbers through the centre.
The leaders worked for 10 weeks on a variety of initiatives with and on-behalf of the foundation. This also involved check-ins with TH to explore and reflect on their leadership practice:
– listening, being humble
– team work and dynamic
– adapting and being flexible
– using innovation and each other’s unique skills to get things done
– resilience.
The NeuroConnection Foundation team and board members joined the Douglas leaders, their line managers and senior stakeholders for a review and celebration.
